Poetry against Oppression, Fascism: Is jism par unka diya har zakhm ab ghao nahi ek tamgha hai....
The 'nazm' is a protest against atrocities and oppression. Shams Ur Rehman Alavi, who hails from Lucknow, has spent most of his life in Bhopal.

is jism par, unka diya har zakhm
ab ghaao nahi, ek tamgha hai
unki barbariyat
unki aankhon mein khatakti hamari shahriyat
har zulm, har zyadti, har tazheek
hamein deti hai ek nayi tahreek
ki har sub'h ye zakhmi jism phir se tan ke khaDa ho jata hai
ho kar ek anokhe jazbe se sarshaar.....
Lynching, detention camp, hamari har shinaakht par vaar
Khudaa ne diya hai kisi ko kitna ikhtiyaar!
ye jaan no tumhari nafrat agar kam na hogi
to phir ek tarikh raqam hogi
tumhare ye mazaalim, tumhara ye lashkar
ye naslkushki ka kh(w)aab
sab hoga ghar-qaab

Every scar, hurt, humiliation they inflict on us
It's a medal now in this battle
Not just another wound
They hate, they discriminate
They oppress us, they torture us
They resent our appearance
Our citizenship, even our presence
On our land is an eyesore for them
Each and every attack on us, our identity
Demonizing, branding us in the times of calamity
From throwing us in detention camps to
Lynching us over food, our faith
They just never slow down, they are on a roll
Fascists, marching towards their goal
I am targeted every day
But there is something that makes me rise
With new vigour every day
The battle is still on
Once they see me fall
In this river of blood
Gleeful, as they find me motionless
And getting drowned
I stand again in the midst of the battleground

Every scar, hurt, humiliation, they inflict on us
It is a motivation now, not just yet another wound
They've all the weapons, all the might but still use..
Fakery, falsehoods and those weird theories they propound*
We are demonised, discriminated, lynched, thrown in detention camps
But their blood thirst is not quenched, they continue to targets us and hound
Still, there is something that makes me rise with new vigour everyday
Pushed to the wall, I've no option but to fight back, rebound
Once they see me fall in the rivers of blood, getting drowned
I would again stand in the midst of the battleground
