Famous poet Adam Gondvi's ghazal: Poetry for peace, communal harmony and justice

Ramnath Singh alias 'Adam' Gondvi was born in Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh in 1947. He gave a new tone to Ghazal in Northern India. His poetry is not just about attacking politics.

It brings to fore inequalities in society, the issues of caste and communalism, apart from giving voice to the rural Indian, including the oppressed, backward and the Dalit.

After Dushyant Kumar, he is the most widely read poet in Hindi circles. He passed away in 2011. He should not be confused with the legendary Urdu poet 'Adam'.

हिंदू या मुस्लिम के अहसासात को मत छेड़िए
अपनी कुरसी के लिए जज्‍बात को मत छेड़िए

हममें कोई हूण, कोई शक, कोई मंगोल है
दफ़्न है जो बात, अब उस बात को मत छेड़िए

ग़लतियाँ बाबर की थी; जुम्‍मन का घर फिर क्‍यों जले
ऐसे नाज़ुक वक़्त में हालात को मत छेड़िए

हैं कहाँ हिटलर, हलाकू, जार या चंगेज़ ख़ाँ
मिट गए सब, क़ौम की औक़ात को मत छेड़िए

छेड़िए इक जंग, मिल-जुल कर गरीबी के खिलाफ़
दोस्त मेरे, मजहबी नग़मात को मत छेड़िए
