Jigar Moradabadi's famous ghazal: Yun zindagi guzaar raha hun tere baghair.....

Ali Sikandar Jigar Moradabadi was arguably the most popular Urdu poets of his era in the 20th century. Jigar was born in Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh in 1890.

Jigar left an indelible mark on Urdu poetry, especially, the genre of ghazals. The presence of Jigar ensured the success of mushairas. People came from far and wide to see and listen him.

Jigar sahab passed away in Gonda [UP] in 1960. Read this famous ghazal, which has, at least, three unique couplets that are on the lips of poetry lovers and are oft-quoted across Urdu world.

दिल में किसी के राह किये जा रहा हूँ मैं 
कितना हसीं गुनाह किये जा रहा हूँ मैं 

फर्द-ए-अमल सियाह किये जा रहा हूं मैं
रहमत को बेपनाह किये जा रहा हूँ मैं

ऎसी भी एक निगाह किये जा रहा हूँ मैं 
ज़र्रों को महर-ओ-माह* किये जा रहा हूँ मैं 

गुलशन परस्त हूँ मुझे गुल ही नहीं अज़ीज़ 
काँटों से भी निबाह किये जा रहा हूँ मैं 

यूं ज़िन्दगी गुज़ार रहा हूँ तेरे बगैर 
जैसे कोई गुनाह किये जा रहा हूँ मैं
